Texas: The girl behind the Amber Alerts
On January 13th, 1996, a 9-year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted while riding her bicycle with her little brother. A witness told police that a man in a black van grabbed her and took off. Four days later she was found murdered. Her killer has never been found and he is still on the loose. The unsolved abduction and murder of Amber Hagerman is the most famous case of its kind in the United State’s history. It was this tragic single event that led to the creation of the Amber Alert System and the National Sex Offender Registry.
